How we do it

We’re doing our bit to reduce our impact on the environment.

From our staff to our supply chain, we’ve taken everything into consideration to make sure we’re doing the best we can. We’ve got a reliable and sustainable train service that’s accredited to environmental and energy management systems (ISO 14001 and ISO 50001). Plus, we’ve set some pretty challenging targets to help us reduce energy, minimise waste and environmental incidents to make our operations more environmentally friendly.

Sustainability - electricity

On a bigger scale, we're making sure that over 31,555,911 kWh of electricity (that's over 10% of our electric fleet consumption) was fed back into the grid via our trains' regenerative braking feature.

On a smaller scale, we're working to improve air quality at some of our stations with the Rail Safety and Standards Board.

Colleague champion

To get all our staff involved we’ve got a colleague champion scheme in place to make sure everyone is aware of our sustainability goals, and over 600 of our staff have completed the e-learning course ‘Environmental Awareness on the Railway’.

Our Environment & Sustainability Policy

We are committed to developing sustainability and understand the importance of protecting our environment. That is why we have outlined key objectives to help reduce our carbon emissions and reliance on natural resources.
